This quarter spreads out from the foot of mount Gellért to the foot of the hillside of the castle. The name tabán is a name of Turkish origin that means a tannery. During the Ottoman occupation, this quarter was occupied by of the tanners of Serbian origin living in miserable conditions. Today you can see the Élisabeth bridge, the Parish Church dedicated to Saint Catherine, the Medical History Museum and the square bearing the name of the famous architect Miklós Ybl.
