This unusual pagoda is all that remains of the estate of Chanteloup. In the 18C, forced into a gilded exile on his lands, the Duke of Choiseul had a Chinese pagoda built opposite his castle in the heart of a landscaped garden dotted with follies. Despite a staunch following in Europe, his estate did not escape dismantling by property merchants in the 19C. Today this masterpiece is perhaps one of the most unexpected castles of the Loire Valley's immense architectural heritage.
