This temple, which stands on Yuan hill in the suburbs of Kunming, was built during the period of the Nanzhao kingdom, then rebuilt between 1833 and 1850, following a fire. Traditional in style, the temple is famous for its room of five hundred luohan (arhats), carved by the sculptor Li Guanxiu in the late 19C. The temple is also home to an allegory of the Immortals crossing the Sea of Clouds, and the tricks of the monk Jigong. The number of these statues and their realistic style make this a fascinating complex.
