Considered very prestigious by the Viennese, the lively Wieden area lies south of the Innere Stadt and the Ring. The huge Karlsplatz boasts some major cultural and tourist highlights, such as the Secession building crowned by laurels, and the Baroque Karlskirche (St Charles' Church). To the west, on either side of the main road, Wienzeile, there are a few Jugendstil façades. On the central reservation, the market stalls of the vast Naschmarkt tempt you to stop and soak up the exotic atmosphere.
