This cobbled square situated at the heart of the historic town is magnificent. In the middle stands a 22m-high bronze statue of King Sigismund III, raised in 1644. According to legend, the statue of he who made Warsaw the capital of Poland brandishes his sabre in the air in the case of threat. He has however been unable to prevent the building of the East-West express road at his feet. Take the time to ride in the amazing Soviet lift built in 1949.
