This splendid theatre in wood and stucco was designed by Andrea Palladio in 1580 on the model of the theatres of Antiquity and, following the architect's death, was completed by Vincenzo Scamozzi. The tiers of seats are laid out in a semi-circle and surmounted by a magnificent colonnade with balustrade crowned with statues. The stage is superb, with superimposed niches, columns and statues and amazing perspectives painted in trompe-l'oeil by Scamozzi.
