Famous characters such as Cosimo de Medici, Mozart and Goethe have all spent time in this extraordinary garden which has retained its original appearance since its creation in 1580. The lower section is Italian in style, with avenues, fountains, statues and a maze, while the upper section has a more Baroque feel. At the end of the famous avenue of cypress trees which crosses the garden, a spiral staircase leads to a belvedere offering fine views of the town.
