The Lido, Venice's favourite seaside resort, now has a slightly decadent atmosphere. Although the resort has lost some of its former flamboyance, splendid villas can still be seen along the lungomare (sea-front promenade). Three emblematic buildings line Piazzale del Casinò: the municipal casino, Palazzo della Mostra del Cinema, a temple to the silver screen, and the neo-Moorish Grand Hotel Excelsior, once popular with the international jet set.
