Standing on Campo San Pietro, the church of San Pietro di Castello is one of Venice's oldest places of worship, dating from around 650. Rebuilt in the 17C to designs by Andrea Palladio, its façade resembles that of Il Redentore. The interior is home to an interesting work by Veronese which depicts St John the Evangelist, St Peter and St Paul. Also of interest is the elaborate main altar and an unusual St Peter's cathedra, a 13C marble throne which is adorned with inscriptions from the Koran.
