This former Jesuit, and subsequently, Paulinian church, built between 1642 and 1646, rose to the rank of cathedral when the diocese of Varaždin was created in 1957. The façade, remodelled in the 18C, bears the coat of arms of its sponsor, Count Gašpar Draškovic. The attractive, airy interior boasts a magnificent Assumption altarpiece over the main altar. Also worthy of mention are the chapel of St Frances Xavier, adorned with stucco by Quadrio (1710) and the organ chest, also Baroque.
