San Pietro di Sorres is one of the principal sites for the Romanesque in Sardinia. The building, which served as the cathedral from 1112 to 1503, was built in two stages, between the late 11C and late 12C. Although restoration work carried out in the late 19C altered its initial appearance, it remains remarkable. The adjacent Benedictine monastery (extended in 1953) houses a museum dedicated to the site and the church.
