This cathedral standing on a huge square surrounded by university buildings was built between 1913 and 1930 in accordance with wishes expressed after the terrible flood in 1879. Its architectural style is a blend of Romanesque, Gothic and Byzantine elements. Not far from the cathedral is the National Pantheon, where famous Hungarians from the worlds of art, culture and history are honoured.
