A vegetable garden in the 17C, Kungsträdgården was turned into this Baroque-style garden enclosed by walls and reserved for the royal family in the 18C. After the death of Gustav III the gardens were opened to the public. Nowadays, it is a place where people meet up and festive events are arranged, including an ice rink in winter. To the south, note the statue of Charles XII: his finger points towards the east, in the direction of Russia, Sweden's traditional enemy.
