The former abbey-church of Saint Wandrille was for many years plundered for its stone, hence its present ruined state. The pillar bases of the large arches of the nave (14C) emerge from the greenery. Only two powerful yet slender columns belonging to the left arm of the transept crossing (13C) still stand today. The chancel was encircled by an ambulatory that originally had 15 chapels.
