The former 7C royal abbey, situated near the basilica, was rebuilt in the 18C by leading architects of the period, namely Jules Hardouin-Mansart, Robert de Cotte and Jacques Gabriel. In 1809, Napoleon established a school here for the daughters of those who had received the Légion d'Honneur decoration. Today, this boarding school has close to 400 pupils.
