The 215m-long east façade of Diocletian's Palace still exists in its entirety and will give you an idea of the enormous proportions of this edifice built from the year 298 on. It has retained its two square corner towers, as well as the Silver Gate, bricked up in the Middle Ages then reopened and restored after the Second World War. On the opposite side of the road you will notice the Contarini Bastion, a monolithic fortification built during the Venetian period (17C) as protection against the Turks.
