Nestled between the Mátra Mountains and Bükk Mountains, this fortress protected Eger Castle, 20km away. It is even said that an underground passage connected the two, but no one has ever found it. In 1596, after the fall of Eger, the Turks managed to take Sirok Castle as well. Destroyed in the early 18C, it was refurbished for public use in 2015. The panoramic view over the Mátra with the summit of Kékestet, the Bükk and, to the north, the Slovak Mountains, is splendid.
