The centre of Sète focuses on its old harbour (1666), with its canals lined with colourful houses, its bridges, embarkation points for boat trips, fishing trawlers and old riggings. The Royal canal, the section of the Canal du Midi which runs into the sea, is particularly lively in summer when jousting tournaments take place here. The Marine is home to numerous restaurants, the terraces of which overlook the canal protected by the Môle Saint-Louis.
