Now overtaken by an expressway (the VE 2) with several tunnels, this road built in 1950 was dubbed the "gold road" on account of how much it cost. Audaciously hewn out of the coastline, on a cliffside that plunges straight into the ocean, the road is a real feat of civil engineering. You can venture onto certain stretches, provided you leave your car close to the barriers. The viewpoints over the coast are magnificent.
