This church, founded in the 12C by King Afonso Henriques after the conquest of Santarém over the Moors in 1147, was remodelled in the 16C. It has an elegant Manueline doorway. The interior is covered with azulejos. The most interesting are those known as tapete (carpet style), which have multicoloured plant motifs, common in the first half of the 17C. Also see the Manueline features in the three chapels and the Baroque gilded wood altar.
