The work of Herzog and Meuron, the De Young Museum is essentially devoted to American (painting and sculpture), African and Oceanic art (sculpture, every day and ritual objects, contemporary works) and textiles (weaving, tapestry, costumes). The Art of the Americas gallery boasts the largest collection of Teotihuacan frescoes outside Mexico, as well as Maya antiques. The glazed observatory at the top of the tower commands splendid views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
