Founded in 1218, the university has acquired an international reputation over the centuries. It boasts a magnificent Plateresque-style façade with a majestic porch dating from 1534. Its buildings are laid out in a square around a patio. Inside, admire the main hall, hung with Brussels tapestries, where official ceremonies took place. Upstairs, the Baroque-style library, renovated in the 18C, contains over 40,000 volumes.
