De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
A masterpiece of Saintonge art. Originally composed of a single nave and two superimposed chancels (so that pilgrims on the Way of Saint James could be welcomed whilst continuing monastic duties), the church was mutilated in 1803, but the transept and former Romanesque choir with magnificent historiated capitals remain. Note the imposing monolithic baptismal font in the small apse chapel of the southern semi-transept. The crypt, half-buried and with groin vaults throughout, echoes the layout of the basilica itself.
