Mietsu Naval Facility Site
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
The naval facility, built in 1858, is one of the oldest examples of a dry dock in Japan. The dock is one of the twenty-three component parts of "The Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining" which are designated as World Heritage properties in 2015. As excavations have been covered over, elements and artefacts from the former naval site are on display at the information corner inside the Tsunetami Sano Memorial Museum, which is right next to the site. Equipped with a pair of virtual reality glasses, explore the site and naval academy as they were in the 19C.
