The square is graced with numerous 16C to 18C half-timbered houses, a new covered market, the contemporary church of Saint Joan of Arc and the Restoration cross, which marks the site where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake on May 30, 1431. In the Middle Ages, condemned prisoners were pilloried or executed here.
