The origins of St James' Church go back to 1311, though the western part was not completed until 1471. The chancel houses a masterpiece, Tilman Riemenschneider's Altar of the Holy Blood (1504). Depicting the Last Supper, it features Judas at the centre looking at Christ, who is proffering him some bread. In the nearby square stands the Renaissance building of the former Latin School.
