This is the oldest part of the Palatine Hill, where the very first inhabitants of Rome settled in the 11C-10C BC. Among the ruins of huts excavated here are some of the earliest traces of the city (8C-7C BC), which are known as the village of Romulus. Three huts (oval or rectangular in shape) have been discovered here, sunk in the ground. The holes that can be seen were once used for the pillars which supported the roof and the walls of the buildings.
