Wayfarers Chapel
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
Conceived as a hillside chapel where wayfarers could stop to meditate, and inspired by the teachings of 18C Swedish theologian Emanuel Swedenborg, the chapel, completed in 1951, is the best-known work of architect Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright. A popular setting for weddings, the angular structure of Palos Verdes stone, redwood and glass is surrounded by redwood trees and three and a half acres of lush gardens also designed by the architect, creating an illusion of communing with nature outdoors. The 50ft stone tower was added in 1954, and a carillon was added in 1978.
