Adorned with medieval turrets, embrasures and crenellations characteristic of a "castle", this impressive hotel (since 1880) is Quebec's most famous landmark. It was named after Louis de Buade, Comte de Frontenac and governor of New France (17C) and stands on the site of the former Château Haldimand. The latter, originally built in 1786 for Governor Frederick Haldimand, housed the administrative services and reception rooms of the colonial government.
