The lookout point is named after the German naturalist, Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), who was especially taken with La Orotava Valley when he visited Tenerife in 1799. The mirador affords a sweeping view of the immense depression covered by lush green banana plantations, from the foot of El Teide to as far as the sea. Amidst the dense green carpet, you can catch glimpses of the pools and houses of La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz as they catch the sunlight.
