Those who are not yet familiar with the Zócalo of Mexico City are sure to be charmed by this vast square planted with large trees and dotted with benches. The Archangel Michael, the city's patron saint, stands atop a beautiful (18C) stone fountain in the middle of the square, with its rippling portales (arcades) on three sides - in particular those of the Palacio Municipal dating from the early 20C and sporting a Neo-Classical look.
