The museum occupies an austere early 20C structure to which has been added a purist contemporary extension; the latter houses collections of contemporary pictures and sculpture. The original building has Romanesque and Gothic works, 15C-18C Italian, 16C Flemish and 18C Dutch paintings. The museum also has an important Spanish collection including works by Jose Ribera and Francisco Zurbaran.
