The Romantic Museum is housed in the Quinta da Macieirinha. Notice the Anglo-Saxon appearance of this house, its sash windows and its grounds. It was here that King Charles Albert of Italy took refuge in 1849 after he abdicated; he died two months later. In a recreation of a typical bourgeois interior, the rooms are decorated with painted tiles and Empire-style or English furniture. The windows afford pretty views over the Douro.
