Standing alongside a blue- and gold-roofed temple which emerges behind an oasis of greenery on the corner of the street, Wat Kamphaeng Laeng, founded in the 12C, marks the southernmost point of the Khmer Empire's sphere of influence in Thailand. Originally dedicated to Hindu divinities, it went on to become a place of Buddhist worship. Five small stone prasat of typical design lining the main avenue still retain traces of their delicate ornamentation.
