In 1858, enamoured by the site's beauty, King Mongkut (1804-1868) decided to build a palace perched on the three summits of the Maha Samana, not far from Phetchaburi. Aside from the breathtaking view, the palace allowed the king to indulge in one of his passions: astronomy. The Neoclassical edifices are a happy blend of Thai, western and Chinese styles, reflecting the king's open-mindedness. The trail, rich in the scent of frangipani blossom, offers beautiful walks and panoramas.
