St Francis of Assisi visited Pescia in 1211. The vast interior of the Church of San Francesco houses an altarpiece representing Il Poverello and six episodes from his life immortalise the event. It was made by Bonaventura Berlinghieri in 1235. Be sure to also see the triptych of St Anne, The Martyrdom of St Dorothy, and the 15C Cappella Cardini, built by Brunelleschi.
