Tucked away behind a curtain of modern buildings, between Place Rhin-et-Danube and Place des Fêtes, the American or Mouzaïa district is depicted by villas dating from the 1890s. By "villas", we mean paved lanes lined by 19C lampposts and delightful small houses, formerly inhabited by the working class. The district owes its double name to an Algerian town and to the gypsum extracted from the quarries and exported to America. Very pleasant for a quiet stroll!
