The entrance to this park, via two wrought-iron gates, is superb. Built for Louis-Philippe-Joseph d'Orléans, this half-German, half-English garden was designed by Carmontelle. It is planted with a variety of species (sycamore maples, ginkgo biloba) and adorned with white statues. The "Rotunda", or Chartres Pavilion, built by Ledoux, is what remains of a toll-house built in the perimeter wall. The oval naumachia basin is modelled on Roman pools constructed for the simulation of naval battles.
