This wharf was formerly the site of a convent that stretched from the quay to Rue Christine, hence the name, lined with fine houses in the 18C. La Bruyère lived at N°26, Émile Littré, author of the dictionary of the same name, lived at N°21, composer Charles Gounod lived at N°20. At N°5-7, Picasso worked on Guernica. On the Seine side, the Lapérouse restaurant is an institution in Paris.
