The 17C Hôtel Salé, restored, extended and modernised, is home to the Picasso museum, designed like a museum in movement in a bid to explore all the aspects and scope of the master's work. While temporary theme exhibitions rotate some of the artist's 5,000 works held here, permanent exhibitions are devoted to themes such as "Intimate Picasso" and "Picasso the collector", which compare the output of the Andalusian artist with that of other major artists such as Corot, Degas, Cézanne, Le Douanier Rousseau, Braque.
