The Riviera del Brenta was created in the 15C by the Venetians when they began to settle on the mainland as a result of their declining influence at sea. From Padova to its mouth in the Venetian lagoon, the River Brenta slowly winds its way past the gardens of sumptuous villas which are now UNESCO World Heritage sites. A boat trip along the river is highly recommended! At Strà, don't miss the Villa Pisani (18C), which is surrounded by magnificent gardens.
