In the 13C, Olite became the royal seat of the kings of Navarre, but it was Charles III (or Charles the Noble) who made it their main residence and transformed the Roman fortress into a castle (1399). Looking like something from a fairy tale, the palacio real therefore has two parts: the old palace, or Palacio de los Teobaldos (nowadays a parador), and the new palace, in which the Queen's Hall and the King's Gallery with graceful arches are remarkable.
