Launched in 1846, the first Maid of the Mist had a wooden skiff and was fueled by coal. Today, four steel boats with diesel engines shuttle between the foot of Prospect Point and of Horeshoe Falls. Hooded waterproof ponchos are distributed to passengers to protect them from the torrents of water. This excursion, often topped off with rainbows, is one of the most exciting experiences Niagara Falls can offer.
