Between Madrid and Segovia, this rugged mountain is depicted by lush vegetation making it a refreshing oasis in the Castilian desert. The streams rising here (Manzanares, Jarama) feed the province's many reservoirs, popular with the Madrileños in summer. In winter the latter go skiing to the Navacerrada pass.
