Opposite the Triumphal Arch, Place de la Carrière is closed by the Palais du Gouvernement, the former residence of the Intendant of Lorraine, designed by Héré. The peristyle is linked to the houses on the square by an Ionic colonnade topped with a balustrade and vases. Between each column, note the busts of Turkish soldiers.
