This extension of the monastery cemetery, surrounded by a high brick wall, opened in the late 19C. The remains of leading figures from the worlds of culture and politics were moved here when the regime dismantled Moscow's cemeteries. From then on, everyone wanted to be buried here, that is, if being interred at the foot of the Kremlin wall wasn't an option. Hence the astonishing busts of military grandees inhabiting this very fine park, alongside its more famous residents.
