Pennsbury Manor
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
The 43-acre site on the Delaware River north of Philadelphia was the personal summer estate of Pennsylvania's founder William Penn. The stately Georgian manor house (visit by guided tour only) that stands today is a re-creation of the manse Penn began building in 1683; its brick facade overlooks formal English gardens and the river beyond. Filled with fine 17C and 18C English and Dutch furnishings-including several Penn family pieces-the interior rooms illustrate Penn's upper-class social status, which belied his Quaker beliefs.
