Retaining part of its thick ramparts, this monastery still resembles a fortress. Like the nearby monasteries of Voroneț and Humor, the church (1532) is covered with frescoes: on the south façade is a Tree of Jesse and an incredible Siege of Constantinople. Inside, note the fine Crucifixion. Don't miss the museum in the Clisarnita (the voivode's residence built in 1612), which is home to the voivode's carved throne, as well as manuscripts.
