Built from the 11C-15C, this edifice still belongs to the family after whom it is named. It was built on the site of a castle where Bernard de Menthon, founder of the Hospice du Petit and the Grand-St-Bernard, was born in the 10C. Since then, each generation has sought to leave its mark, hence the disparate architectural styles that invariably enchant the visitor, as they recognise different family members.
