Matsushima Bay
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
From west to east, you will first see Kanran-tei tea pavilion. Built above the sea front, it commands a superb view over the bay. To the left of Kanran-tei, Godaido island is home to a religious edifice built in 1609 by Masamune. You will then see the red bridge (Fukuura-bashi) which links Fukuura island to the sea front. This small island is a botanical reserve home to some 250 species of plants. Opposite the island, the Historical Museum of Date charts the life of Date Masamune in 25 scenes, as well as showcasing a gallery of famous people from Tohoku.
